Well - it has finally been confirmed! J-Lo is pregnant - with some reports saying that she is having twins.

We are going on holidays next week. Sun, sand, relaxing - I can not wait! I hope you have a holiday to look forward to before bub arrives.

My husband and I took a trip away when I was 6 months pregnant. It is a wonderful thing to do before the baby comes along.

So this has got me to thinking - what are my holiday clothing "must haves"? (pregnant or not!)

First of all - a sundress - that is cool, comfortable and can be worn day or night. The Allegra Maternity Dress (pictured right) in 100% cotton is perfect.

Wear it with a hat and sandals for day time chic or dress it up with espradrills and an updo for evening.

The next must have item is a pair of capri pants. I like the Amelia Linen Maternity Pants (pictured left). These pants are cool and comfortable and look fabulous too. Available in classic black or mocha as shown.

These pants will go back with most tops from singlets and camis to more dressy maternity tops.

Pregnancy Health - constipation

The GlowMama blog isn't only about maternity fashion. We also supply information and tips from experts on how to stay healthy during pregnancy. Naturpath Juanita Emmerton from Red Suva joins us this week to provide helpful advice on how to alleviate and avoid constipation during pregnancy.

Constipation, although a topic many of us would choose to avoid discussing, is extremely common during pregnancy, especially in the later stages as the baby grows and presses on the intestines. So what can you do?

Eat a diet rich in fibre, for example vegetables and salad greens and ensure you have enough soluble fibre in the diet such as apples which provide a food source for good bacteria in the bowel. Another fibre source is Slippery Elm. Slippery Elm is a fantastic herb which is safe during pregnancy and has a bulking action on the stools. It also soothes the mucus membranes of the gut which makes it great also for morning sickness.

Increase water as this helps to move the stools through the intestinal tract and prevents them from drying out and becoming “hard” to pass.

Avoid refined and highly processed foods as these can contribute to constipation and are devoid of nutrients. Instead, choose wholegrain foods, which not only are higher in fibre, but contain many important minerals in their husks such as zinc, magnesium and calcium.

Listen to your body. Never suppress the urge to move your bowels as this can further contribute to your constipation.

Snack on nuts and seeds as these not only provide a valuable source of essential fatty acids to help lubricate the bowels but are a rich source of calcium and magnesium and help keep your blood sugar more stable.

Exercise regularly. Walking and swimming internally massage the intestinal area and help move your stools through the intestinal tract.

These are just a handful of helpful tips that may provide you with relief from constipation during pregnancy. If the constipation does persist however please consult with your Doctor or Naturopath so they may provide more specialised assistance.

How to relieve an itchy pregnant belly

Your best friend is getting married, you are a bridesmaid and you are pregnant. What on earth are you going to wear?

We have some tips to help you and The Bride choose the perfect dress.

The challenge is finding a dress that will fit in with the wedding theme and is going to suit you several months from now when your body has a different dimension.

* Your body is going to continuously change for the next few months. Eliminate the guesswork (and the stress) by selecting a gown with an empire waist.

* Avoid fussy bows and ruffles. All of the bridesmaids look better in fewer adornments, and you're no exception.

* Make sure you will be comfortable - steer clear of itchy lace sections and definitely don't try to squeeze yourself into a gown that is too small.

* Invest in a comfortable pair of shoes. You will be on your feet for a long time so be prepared..

We have to tell you about Brisbane based photographer Nikki Paice from Peas & Carrots. Nikki specialises in baby and maternity portrait photography. If you have visited the GlowMama store in Clayfield you would have seen the gorgeous baby photos on the wall behind our counter. These pictures were taken by Nikki.

I was talking to one of our customers the other day who recently had Nikki take some pictures of her newborn. She said the photos are so beautiful she gets teary every time she looks at them.

Nikki has that special blend of professionalism and warmth that makes you feel totally relaxed and natural during the photoshoot. Nikki captures those intimate little moments - a cheeky grin, a loving look between mum and bub, proud dad with his family.

It's All About The Fit

If you read any article with fashion tips, they always say one of the biggest fashion no-nos is wearing clothing that doesn't fit you properly.

There is no time when fit is more important than during pregnancy. Wearing "normal" clothes a few sizes too big can make you look a few sizes bigger, and frumpy. They will not fit you across the shoulders, the arm length will be too long, and if you are wearing pants, they will sag around your bottom - not very flattering!

By the same token, trying to fit into your pre-pregnancy clothes will not only be incredibly uncomfortable but can also look very tacky. T-shirts riding up, pants stretched to the limit with the top button undone... You know the look and it isn't good.

Just like you invest in new clothes each season, look to invest in maternity clothes for your "pregnancy" season. Plan your wardrobe and aim to get a few key mix and match maternity pieces. The investment will be worthwhile because you will feel so much more comfortable, and confident in your appearance.

Stretch Marks

One of the dreaded side effects of pregnancy is stretch marks. There is no sure fire way of preventing them (it is apparently a genetic pre-disposition) however creams can help to keep skin supple and help to reduce their impact.

I didn't get any stretch marks with my first pregnancy. I used a number of different products including aromababy stretched to the limit cream, bio oil stretch mark cream and plain old olive oil. I don't know if they helped prevent stretch marks but they certainly helped to relieve the itchiness associated with a stretching belly.

I have been looking for some natural products for nappy rash and came across the site called Top 2 Toe Naturally . They have a wide selection of products including a Nourishing Belly Balm. Another store called Vitale Natural has Mango Butter Belly Balm which sounds good enough to eat! Vitale Natural actually have a store in Brisbane so I might pop down there some time and have a look.

Due in August 2007, Naomi Watts has kept her pregnancy style simple and comfortable. She accessorises with a leather tote, sunnies and jewellery.

Style note: Dressing in one block colour is flattering on the more petite frame.

Australian Population about to hit 21 million!

The Australian population is expected to reach 21 million people tomorrow 28th June. The Australian population clock can be viewed here.

I recently read that Australia will reach 21 million long before what was originally expected. This is mainly due to the increase in birth rate. According to the census reports the birth rate in 2006 was the second highest in all of Australia's history!

What is also interesting, is that the number of births per Australian female is 1.81 which is apparently one of the highest rates in the OECD.

Why do you think this is the case? What made you decide to have a child?

I had a baby boy in 2006. If I think about why we chose to have a bub at this time - it had nothing to do with the baby bonus - or Mr Costello's "one for the country" speech. All I can say is that it just felt "right" and I guess we can put that down to feeling positive about the future.

Winter has well and truly hit! Even up here in Brisbane I had to put the heater on the other day. I heard it was the coldest June day in Brisbane since the 1920s. Brrrr it sure was a shock to the system. Funnily enough, we have had heaps of calls lately from people wanting to know if we still have winter stock available. We do – and here are some suggestions to get you through this woolly weather.

The Ripe Knit Jacket (right) is a perfect addition to your maternity wardrobe. Knit jackets and cardigans are so fashionable this season. The thing that is great about this jacket is that you can wear it pregnant or not. The belt allows you to add some shape and will cinch the knit in once your bump has gone.

Another trend that is so hot right now is layering. GlowMama instore customers have got right in to the layering trend and love the Alice Knit and the Juliet Shift Dress (pictured left). This combination looks so stylish when teamed with a pair of classic opaque tights or leggings.

A great top for layering is the beautifully soft Wyse Modal long sleeve.
