Happy Feet

Good, comfortable, supportive shoes are an important investment when you're pregnant. Luckily ballet flats are a wardrobe staple this season. There are so many stylish designs around. Check out these gorgeous ballerinas by French Sole

A few tips for buying shoes when you are pregnant:
· Go in the afternoon when your feet are going to be their largest. You need to be sure your shoes will still be comfortable at the end of the day
· Go shopping when you can spend some time trying on and walking around in your new shoe candidates
· Have a plan - think about the maternity clothes you have and what colours and styles would complete your outfit
· Comfort and style need not be mutually exclusive!
· If you want to lengthen your legs get shoes in the same colour as your pants. Pointy toes can help elongate your legs too
Here are some more fab shoes available at Edward Meller

Are you a pregnant bridesmaid?

Your best friend is getting married, you are a bridesmaid and you are pregnant. What on earth are you going to wear?

We have some tips to help you and The Bride choose the perfect dress.

The challenge is finding a dress that will fit in with the wedding theme and is going to suit you several months from now when your body has a different dimension.

* Your body is going to continuously change for the next few months. Eliminate the guesswork (and the stress) by selecting a gown with an empire waist.

* Avoid fussy bows and ruffles. All of the bridesmaids look better in fewer adornments, and you're no exception.
* Make sure you will be comfortable - steer clear of itchy lace sections and definitely don't try to squeeze yourself into a gown that is too small.

* Invest in a comfortable pair of shoes. You will be on your feet for a long time so be prepared..

At GlowMama, we have several good options for bridesmaid dresses. The Sunray Maternity Dress (pictured right) is perfect. It has an empire line cut and simple details to make it special - such as the ribbon around the empire line and pleating detail in the skirt. We stock the Sunray dress in 7 colours so you are more than likely able to find a shade to match in with the wedding theme. Some of our customers have loved the Sunray dress so much that they have dressed all bridesmaids in it - pregnant or not!

Another great option is the Delux Satin Maternity Dress (pictured left). This is an elegant design and definitely wouldn't be out of place in even the most stylish wedding. You could also try the Szabo knot maternity dress, the Szabo halter maternity dress, or for a pretty spring themed wedding the Roses Knot Maternity Dress would look stunning.

Make sure you enjoy yourself and don't hide from the camera! Sure, you don't look like you did last year, but you look amazing now! Be sure to join in on group photos, and have a few taken of only yourself as a radiant keepsake of this wonderful time in your life.

Pregnancy and newborn photography

We have to tell you about Brisbane based photographer Nikki Paice from Peas & Carrots. Nikki specialises in baby and maternity portrait photography. If you have visited the GlowMama store in Clayfield you would have seen the gorgeous baby photos on the wall behind our counter. These pictures were taken by Nikki.

I was talking to one of our customers the other day who recently had Nikki take some pictures of her newborn. She said the photos are so beautiful she gets teary every time she looks at them.

Nikki has that special blend of professionalism and warmth that makes you feel totally relaxed and natural during the photoshoot. Nikki captures those intimate little moments - a cheeky grin, a loving look between mum and bub, proud dad with his family.

Visit the Peas & Carrots website to view Nikki's portfolio of pictures.

It's All About The Fit

If you read any article with fashion tips, they always say one of the biggest fashion no-nos is wearing clothing that doesn't fit you properly.

There is no time when fit is more important than during pregnancy. Wearing "normal" clothes a few sizes too big can make you look a few sizes bigger, and frumpy. They will not fit you across the shoulders, the arm length will be too long, and if you are wearing pants, they will sag around your bottom - not very flattering!

By the same token, trying to fit into your pre-pregnancy clothes will not only be incredibly uncomfortable but can also look very tacky. T-shirts riding up, pants stretched to the limit with the top button undone... You know the look and it isn't good.

Just like you invest in new clothes each season, look to invest in maternity clothes for your "pregnancy" season. Plan your wardrobe and aim to get a few key mix and match maternity pieces. The investment will be worthwhile because you will feel so much more comfortable, and confident in your appearance.

Mum-to-be of the month

Luisa Cubito is positively glowing in the Julia Evening Dress available exclusively from GlowMama. Luisa is the winner of our Flaunt It competition and has picked up a $50 gift voucher.
We love the way Luisa has accessoried her outfit with sparkling jewellery, a gorgeous little clutch bag and a sequinned cardi.

Luisa says:
"This is a photo of me at 6 months attending a friend's wedding wearing my favourite maternity dress (my son Adriano was born in December 2006). I wore the dress again for my nephew's christening when I was 8 months pregnant.
It is a classic design and I'm looking forward to wearing it again with my future pregnancies!"

Thanks for sharing with us Luisa and congratulations on the birth of Adriano.

We have had a fantastic response to this competition and have decided to make "Mum-to-be of the month" a monthly feature. We would love to see you wearing GlowMama clothes! Send your pictures to shop@glowmama.com.au . Next months winner will scoop a Bamboo Body t-shirt extender.

Stretch Marks

One of the dreaded side effects of pregnancy is stretch marks. There is no sure fire way of preventing them (it is apparently a genetic pre-disposition) however creams can help to keep skin supple and help to reduce their impact.

I didn't get any stretch marks with my first pregnancy. I used a number of different products including aromababy stretched to the limit cream, bio oil stretch mark cream and plain old olive oil. I don't know if they helped prevent stretch marks but they certainly helped to relieve the itchiness associated with a stretching belly.

I have been looking for some natural products for nappy rash and came across the site called Top 2 Toe Naturally . They have a wide selection of products including a Nourishing Belly Balm. Another store called Vitale Natural has Mango Butter Belly Balm which sounds good enough to eat! Vitale Natural actually have a store in Brisbane so I might pop down there some time and have a look.
